Bullying China will backfire in these tumultuous times

The last thing this already tumultuous world needs, Peter Hartcher, is a war with China (“Western world waking up to Beijing’s bullying”, October 13). The putting together of a coalition of like-minded nation’s to bully China is not the answer to China’s bullying. Australia has ceased operations in practically all of its top-level inter-governmental channels with China to what end? And what advantage is there in falling behind US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s campaign to further isolate the West from China? If we do not reverse course towards confrontation, we will bitterly reap a whirlwind of our own foolish making. Vincent Zankin, Rivett (ACT)

Well may Hartcher say COVID-19 is the “made-in-China virus”. His comment supports the view that the virus came from a laboratory. While the WHO investigates the source of COVID-19, we walk around in made-in-China masks while we wait for a made-in-China vaccine. Great business model.
