- At least nine Chinese cities record new coronavirus infections linked to the city of Dalian, which is under strict new quarantine measures
- South Korea, Vietnam and the Philippines are among Asian countries reporting a resurgence of the virus
Mainland China reported 101 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, the highest in over 3½ months, the National Health Commission said, as some other Asia nations also reported an uptick in cases.
Most local infections on mainland China were in the far western region of Xinjiang, which had a spike of 89 cases. About half the cases were identified as asymptomatic infections, the commission said.
In the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, six Covid-19 patients were among the first group to be discharged on Tuesday afternoon after testing negative to coronavirus twice since the new outbreak started in mid-July, according to local health authorities.
Xinjiang has designated hospitals for Covid-19 patients, runs mass testing supported by medical teams from 10 other Chinese provinces and has stopped operating some public transport.
The northeastern province of Liaoning recorded eight new local cases while Beijing reported a case linked to a patient who came from the port city of Dalian, in Liaoning.
