How effective is the Oxford vaccine and does this mean lockdowns will be lifted?

We already have a vaccine, don’t we?
Yes, shots of the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine started being administered three weeks ago. The vaccine that has been approved today was developed by Oxford University and Astrazeneca.

How is it different from the Pfizer vaccine?
Both “teach” the immune system to recognise the coronavirus’s spike protein but they do so in different ways. The Oxford vaccine is based on a virus that was originally taken from a chimpanzee and altered to make it harmless.

A piece of genetic code from the coronavirus has been added to this viral vector. When it enters human cells it prompts them to produce copies of the spike. By themselves these proteins are harmless, but the immune system learns how to recognise them.
